I keep wondering about the reality of certain patterns working for others but not for me Patrik.
Specifically all white streamer patterns. I've rarely had a strike on one, yet those I've tied for others have produced some monster fish. One catch even came close to being a state record but they never worked much for me.
Maybe the olive shrimp is your unlucky pattern? Are we just stuck in a no catch mode with our own "jinxed" patterns. Should I consult a witch doctor, an American Indian medicine man or an exorcist ?
Well I admit to having (don't we all) "confidence" patterns Patrik. And I also believe that one fishes more self assured with those patterns. You "know" it will catch, so you fish it more often.
I'm hung up on experimenting I'm afraid, so I usually fish several flies at the same time. If one of the new flies catches like crazy, even beating out the confidence fly, the new one becomes a confidence pattern for me.
It's those doggone all white streamer patterns that leave me baffled Patrik. Thanks for your comments.
Time will tell Martin😉 As I wrote, olive hasn't been a success for me yet. But many ST anglers out there don't leave their homes for ST fishing without an olive pattern. I just had to give it an other try with my most "productive" pattern AmOS-Shrimp. I'm quite excited, if the olive pattern will perform as good, or even better, as my "original" pattern☺️
Bill, experimenting is a big part of flytying - and giving as well👍 Nothing to be afraid of - otherwise we've still been sitting on trees throwing coconuts😉 That's how we produce new and more effective patterns☺️ But if the grass is more "olive" on the other side, there has to be a reason - we've just to find the key. You for the white ones and I for the olive ones🎣🎣🎣
