Are you sight fishing Mitchell? I get two kinds of carp in my waters. Those that will rush a fly from a good distance and those with lockjaw. More lockjaw than rushes.

Also meant to ask what weight/length rod do you prefer?

@trublubug typically I'm aight fishing to carp within 40 feet that are tailing. The water is pretty muddy, so I can only see their tail. I only have a 6 weight right now, but with this carp I felt undergunned, so I'll be getting an 8 weight soon.

Sounds like a plan Mitchell although if you have landed them on the 6, you've demonstrated some real skill. I usually hunt my carp with a 6 and only use an 8 when I need to toss a bigger fly. I think you mentioned in another post that your carp like big flies so the 8 seems a good idea to me. I use an 8 or 9 for big frog patterns or giant streamers.
