I am sick of people trying to tell us how to manage wildlife here in BC Patagonia is supporting the anti predator hunting movement here in British Columbia. nice to know a "outdoors" company would go against such. they want to fish our northern pike but funny they are predators also. I know all you old guys understand trapping and everything but its these young trust fund man bun wearing dbags that think they have a say.
it's horrible man. when you guys hear British Columbia remember the whole province hates vancouver. bunch of "educated" spoiled rich kids who have never seen a grizzly bear, cougar, wolf or coyote telling us they aren't dangerous and we are barbaric.
From what I've read, BC manages pretty poorly. They opened a wolf cull to protect woodland caribou instead of protecting and managing the habitat for the caribou, even with research pointing that caribou makes up very little if any of the wolves diet. Predator hunting isn't a good management strategy in general regardless. (I'm a hunter and an environmental student studying to get in with the MNRF)
Protecting livestock and family bring in a different element. Mechanical measures to mitigate livestock casualties should be the first move, and if all else fails then targeting a specific problem individual is reasonable. And obviously eliminating an immediate danger also makes sense. But culling or killing in general out of fear and old fashioned thinking has no place in management.
there is so much caribou up northern bc you can shoot them off the road there is plenty. people focus on one herd. no ones talking about the few heard in the interior completely whiped out from wolves. you cant go hunting without seeing at least one moose kill from wolves. the number of grizzly bears out there are ridiculous.
okay so why should we close seasons completely??? these people get signatures by saying we dont follow seasons we waste meat etc. everyone I know who hunts cougar or lynx eats the meat same with Grizzlies when they were opened. we want science based management not emotion based. if science says stop then we will agree
There has been hunting and fishing since the beginning of time and it managed it self just fine and yes there are a holes in any group but as a whole we do pretty and don’t need any tree hugging left wingers screwing things up if I offended anyone sorry but that is how I see it
I tend to agree with your argument, but that wouldn't stop me from supporting Patagonia, a company that has generally made very good decisions and helped greatly with conservation and public lands debates in the US
There are animals now that at extinct due to hunting. Passenger pigeons are one. We’re lucky to have any bison left. Most salmon runs of old are gone. The world is only getting smaller and smaller with larger populations and that likely requires more management. Or we’ll wake up and one day whole populations will be gone.
the predator hunts are managed in BC. there is tags you need to buy just like a deer or moose. the grizzly bear population is not endangered in BC. a bunch of anti hunters who have no idea because they live in Vancouver where there isn't wildlife. speaking on salmon runs you haven't been able to fish salmon for few years now because of that.
