Another tubefly I tied this morning. Can be fished with or without the wiggle tail, but I definitely like the jumbo slim holo gold tail on this one. I think the tails are a great thing to have on hand as they add a ton of size and movement to a fly without really adding an extra casting difficulty. This big tail changes the fly from a 7inch fly to a 12 inch fly in a few seconds (tail is tied on a fast attachment clip for easy changing/removing). Really can't wait to try this one out.
Recipe for tubefly (I'm gonna write this recipe step by step from the back of the fly to the front, rather
than just listing the materials, let me know if this is easier/harder to understand):
Heritage magnum tube
Chartreuse craft fur
Holographic gold flashabou
More chartreuse craft fur (holo tied this time)
Lime green polar chenille
Holographic Fire tiger flashabou
Holo tied orange bucktail
More holographic fire tiger flashabou
More holographic gold flashabou
Holo tied chartreuse craft fur for head
Tubefly rig is a 4/0 partridge universal predator x with stiff wire tied in with a fast-attach clip for the wiggle tail. Wiggle tail is a jumbo slim size in holographic gold.
Thanks! @mjacob_88 It's not the cheapest fly in the world to tie, but if you tie it with lots of coats of superglue throughout the steps, it will last a long time, I should have included that more in the steps. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Thanks @trublubug For sure, I really like the versatility of these flies. And since it's tied on a tube, I can change the rig to match different situations such as putting it on a rig with a stinger hook when the fish aren't so aggressive. I agree on the colour combo, I think this will work in places where perch are around
@ATanner Yes, I'm familiar with his work, I watch kanalgratis tying videos all the time to emulate his ties, not to mention the fishing videos are top notch quality content. That's where I got the idea to tie these wiggle tail tube flies and the basic design is based on kanalgratis flies. The articulated howitzer popper I posted after this one is a pattern designed by Niklaus, the only really difference is the colors I used were a bit different. Best fly fishing channel on YouTube!
