She’s still a beauty John. Maybe more fishy than artsy in your eyes, but still looks lovely to me.
I’ve had to sub on the blue chatterer/cotinga almost since day one. The very limited number of individual feathers I inherited from my Grandfather were quickly used up. I think any fly with cotinga feathers used as cheeks just look “all dressed up”. What to use for a substitute????
Finally settled on picking feathers from the bottom of my aunt’s blue Budgie (parakeet) cage.
Oh what lengths one must go to in order to secure even substitute feathers. LOL
@trublubug ... there are so many quality subs today from dyed hackle tips to kingfisher. I’d say best would be Kingfisher @$25 for a skin on eBay last a lifetime.
Crow.. the best sub to me is golden pheasant under the beak. Color the tips with an Orange marker.. just the tips.. message me your address.. I’ll send you real fluff
Once again John, your generous offer to share materials is greatly appreciated. I value your expertise on effective substitutes even more.
I do have a small supply of “crow” and will check out the Kingfisher skin suggestion. I don’t tie many of the classic salmon fly patterns but I’ll keep your kind offer in mind if I decide I “absolutely” have to have the “real” stuff.
