thought i might have a crack at this English stillwater style fly now that the rivers here are closing. If a cruising brown ignores this, then he'd better hand in his spots and call himself a rainbow.

A winner for bass as well Michael. Ol’ Mr. Bucketmouth wouldn’t resist this either. I’m wondering if you intended to use that bright color backing line as an added strike inducer? I’d have probably colored it with a black permanent marker but I like that added color on this one.

Snakes are absolutely lethal on stillwaters for wild and stocked fish.

@Billtrublubug it was the first bit of backing i could lay my hands on and I kinda like the colour contrast so left it as is. Looking forward to testing in the coming "cabin fever" months of the off season as only still waters are open here until September when the river season opens again. @Ben thats is what I have heard and I'm pretty sure fish cruising the winter shallows will have a hard time resisting the wiggle.

@Bill Trublubug don't have Bass here but both Maccullochella species (Murray and Trout Cod) lurk up this way and will take a fly.

I do like that bit of color contrast Michael. As to the bass, I was thinking more of my own warm waters. Now where did I put that orange backing????
