Made up this fly sort of a micro stone/ hares ear with bead for the thorax. Prototyping some small stuff for my steelhead box. Anxious to try it out. Name it stoneear mix between stone and hares ear.

These have the perfect silhouette. When you say small stuff, what size do you mean?I'd like to know if these work as I've never taken a steelie on a stonefly representation. They look great, just like the stones in my local streams. Bet they will be dynamite.

Bill we are talking size 12 small which I consider decently small for steelhead

Try the Tabou Caddis when you've a chance. It'll catch trout by the bucket

Thanks Brooks. Size 12 is small for steelies. I'm going to add this pattern to my stones box. I like the look a lot. I encounter 4 species so I'll add an orange, a tan, and a dark brown/ black thorax along with the golden yellow as in your fly. Wish I would have made this up. I'm very impressed.

3/4 Brian seems big but I like heavy flies and also it makes for a really good tapper
