Called this baby green sunfish pattern 3-4-3 because I just tried it out and made 3 casts and caught 3 bass all over 16". Just a lucky day I'm sure.

Sorry everyone. Thought you would recognize this for what it is, a modified Spooky Shad. I've posted a Baby Bluegill based on the Spooky Shad previously. Search that here for a link to tying this pattern, pics, materials, etc can be found there. The modifications on this one are in the tail material (EP fibers swapped for marabou) and since I wanted this to dive a bit instead of being a floating fly, there are wraps of lead sub. wire under all the other materials. Let me know if you need more details

Martin F., the body is cactus chenille / estaz or something similar wrapped over the foam. I add some superglue to the foam prior to making the wraps with the estaz

Found a video on You Tube for this. Try entering Tying The Spooky Shad You Tube in your search engine. Easy fly to tie

Thanks guys. Hope you try the pattern. Can be colored to look like lots of baitfish and it has real nice action. The full floating version can even mimic a "walk the dog" crankbait.

Hi Hayden. My choice of color depends on the water I'm fishing and the forage available there. I do this fly as a green sunfish, bluegill, crappie and shad depending on where I am. It also works in non baitfish colors such as white and chartreuse or all black for night fishing on lakes. As to size, I've found that varies a lot too. Sometimes they want a finesse bait, other times they want a mouthful. I usually start out with the smaller sizes and work my way up (2-4 to 3/0).
