I liked Oliver’s post of the “Unfortunate Insect” but wanted a higher floating version. This variant uses additional layers of foam at the thorax and uses a tapered foam cylinder for the abdomen.

This was a way to pass another cool (54F/12.2C), windy, rainy day. Still wondering when those lovely days in May are going to show up?

@Patrik_Herlet Thank you for the compliment Patrik. Coming from someone with your skills, it’s very high praise. I find it interesting that we seem to have very similar thoughts about certain of each other’s patterns. I am pushed as you say to reach for new challenges when I view your posts. Our different types of fish and I suspect fishing, make each of us want to expand our skill sets at the bench. Thanks for always taking time to respond to my questions about your posts and for sharing techniques and ideas that hopefully will make me a better fly tyer.
